The challenge

A fast-growing retailer with a dozen branches was running its point-of-sale, inventory, and reporting systems on ageing on-premise servers. As the business expanded, the setup struggled to keep up: frequent downtime disrupted sales, backups were inconsistent, and each new branch meant more hardware to buy and maintain. Leadership wanted a platform that could scale with them — without the constant firefighting.

What we did

We began with a full assessment of the client's applications and data, then designed a phased migration to a secure cloud environment.

  • Planning. We mapped every workload and its dependencies, and prioritised the migration so the most critical systems moved with the least risk.
  • Security first. Before any data moved, we set up identity and access controls, network segmentation, and encrypted, automated backups.
  • Phased migration. We migrated branch by branch, validating each one fully before moving to the next, and kept the old systems available as a fallback until the new platform was proven.
  • Optimisation. After go-live, we right-sized resources and set budget alerts so costs stayed predictable.

The results

The retailer now runs on a resilient, scalable platform. Unplanned downtime fell by around 90%, monthly IT costs dropped by roughly a third as hardware maintenance disappeared, and opening a new branch no longer requires a server purchase. Staff can access reporting securely from anywhere, and consistent automated backups mean the business is protected against data loss.

Looking ahead

With a stable foundation in place, the client is now exploring analytics on their consolidated data to sharpen inventory decisions across branches.
